Winfield Time is here,,,!

My favorite time of the year is upon us, and with the cooler
temperatures my thoughts turn to Winfield. Our Warm Up Picnic is just
days away, and I am excited about it. We have some good workshop
leaders on board to teach us "ole dogs" some new tricks or should I say
licks. Jan Jennings volunteered to organize the raffle, and she has
enlisted several others to help gather the donations. We have some good
stuff to give away. Lonnie Bonnes volunteered to oversee the lunch.
She will need some helpers when it comes time to serve lunch. Steve
Madorin will be bringing the meat for the potluck supper so we need
everyone to bring a "LARGE" side dish to share. We ask for "LARGE"
side dishes because we don't ask our workshop leaders to bring food.
This is a courtesy we offer to them because of their willingness to
help us. Lois Liggett & Marie Anderson (First Lady) will set up the
registration booth. They will need to be relieved off and on
throughout the day. Helpers will be needed to set up the stage and
lights along with the tee shirt sales and vendors sales table. I plan
to arrive at 8:00 a.m. with all the "STUFF". I have borrowed a car
trailer from Fred & Bobbie Mays to haul everything. I know I will have
help unloading and getting everything set up, because our club members
are so good at helping where help is needed. I want to thank everyone
for all the advance work that has already been done. I'm looking
forward to another successful Warm Up Picnic. Please tell your family
& friends or better yet, bring someone with you. Word of mouth is
still the best kind of advertisement, so advertise, advertise, advertise.
The October meeting is going to be exciting. We are not having
workshops because we are going to practice the songs we will be playing
for our Club's CD that Larry McDoniel has so generously offered to
record for the club. The nominating committee will also present a
slate of officers for 2007. Voting on officers will take place at the
November general meeting, and the new officers will take over at the
Jan. 2007 meeting.
Start thinking of our December Christmas party. Janet Kruske has
volunteered to chair this event.
See you all at Island Park Saturday Sept. 9th.

VICE PRESIDENTIAL CORNER:

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR VP:
A hearty Winfield greeting to all!
I know a number of folks are already in line!
I hope you are getting geared up for the WUP party September 9th. A
Big thank you to all that have supplied their time and talents in the
preparation for this event. It is my understanding that setup begins
around 8:00 a.m. We have a full schedule of workshops this year with
excellent instructors. For those of you that have not been able to
attend multiple workshops, I noticed that the workshops have staggered
starting times. Such a wonderful idea! Perhaps you will find yourself
learning about more instruments than you have fingers to play with. If
the weather holds like this past week, we should have a great turnout.
So come join the fun.
THE NEW SWEATSHIRTS ARE HERE -
THE NEW SWEATSHIRTS ARE HERE!!!
Just in time for the cool nights, the official GPDA Sweatshirts have
arrived. I will have them at the Warm-up Picnic.
The final cost is:
If you ordered a Medium - X-Large crewneck - $16
If you ordered a XX-Large crewneck - $18
If you ordered a Med. - X-Large with Hood - $22.50
If you missed the last meeting or did not get your name on the list and
would like a sweatshirt, we do have a couple of extras printed.
I hope everyone is able to enjoy the Picnic and the event that is
Winfield. This is always a good time of the year to renew oneself,
catch up with old friends, meet a few new ones, learn a tune, relax and
realize this is how folks should be.
Everyone be safe and may Peace be with you during the festival.

For sale:
I am going to sell my 12 string mandola. It has 4 courses with 3 strings per course. It is tuned CGDA like a viola or tenor banjo. I bought it new from the luthier in Rockport, Maine in 1999. I have not played it much and it needs to be played. It also comes with a new gig bag. It has a beautiful sound. There are only three in existance that I know of. One went to a person in Italy, I have one, and Nick kept the third one. If you are interested or want to see/play it, please let me know. I will have it at Winfield in camp as well.
