November 2005

FROM OUR PRESIDENT:

NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT:

We are on our way to Chandler Okla. to attend the Deep Fork Festival. Hope to see some of you there.

Don't forget to attend the November 12th meeting so you can cast your vote for the officers for 2006. Come for Coffee, Juice, and Donuts at 9:00 and the general meeting at 9:30.

Christmas at Cowtown will be Dec. 9th & 10th, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.. We will be playing in the Church again this year. Maybe we can practice some Christmas tunes at the meeting after the workshops.

Teresa Bachman is working out the details for our annual winter retreat. Maybe she will have an update for us.

Jim Colucci has asked us to play for a Grief Group Dec. 8th at the Broadway Christian Church. Mark your calendars - more details at the general meeting.

Prez. Joe

VICE PRESIDENTIAL CORNER:

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR VP:

A colorful, and warm Fall greeting to all.

I hope you have had a chance to get out and enjoy the splendor of all the colors surrounding us before Winter settles in.

Speaking of Winter, I see that we have been invited to participate in the Old Fashioned Christmas at Cowtown. With this event and numerous opportunities to play during the Christmas celebration, I suggest that you bring your club Christmas packet to the next meeting. Larry has agreed to work with us on some arrangements and how to play together in a public setting. This should be a lot of fun and get us all ready to play. So instead of separate group workshops, we will learn something about the other instruments in the Club and how to listen for them as we perform. If you would like to take a solo, or work up a duet, quartet or any other "tet" of your choosing, please feel free to do so. We have a lot of time at Cowtown to play, so we can work you in the lineup. A sign-up sheet will be available at this month's meeting. As always, the more, the merrier on the stage, so plan to attend and join the fun. Bring your music, a pencil, some paper and just a touch of Christmas Cheer!

As a reminder, Pop and the Boys and The Waybacks will be performing a benefit concert at the Louise C. Murdock Theatre, 536 N. Broadway in Wichita, Wednesday November 16, 2205. The proceeds from this concert will be used for the purchase of books for the Plainview Community Library. If you came to our fundraiser last winter, Bob Hamrick played the accordion with Troy, Joy and myself during our set. He is one of the Pops and according to their poster, they play "unapologetic accordion-tinged jamgrass" Should be a fun concert for a good cause. ( More info below in official announcement )

Glenn has an mentioned an opportunity to play for a Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, November 20th, here in Wichita. I don't know the details, but I am sure he will have more information this weekend.

I hope all is well with each of you. See you at the next meeting, November 12!

Peace, Chuck C

The Scoop on Christmas at Cowtown:

We will play December 9 th and 10 th , 6 PM to 9 PM. You can play both nights or only one night. Three hours is quite a long span of time too. We can break up the three hours if that works best for us. Last year we were requested to wear a little more formal attire since it was a holiday. The guys wore black pants or dark pants and white shirts...maybe a vest. The ladies wore black or dark skirts and white blouses. We don't want anyone having to go out and purchase anything....do the best you can. We are practicing the Christmas Play List on Tues. nights at the regular jam session at UMC in Derby on Woodlawn, south of Kay Street. In the past, we have required folks to attend at least two practices. We just want the Club to be on the same page. If you can't make at least one practice, then do the best you can.

Here's our play list from last year. Please print/punch holes/ put in your Christmas book.
