FROM OUR PRESIDENT: |
Hello everyone! Marie and I just got back from the 3rd annual "Memorial Weekend Camp & Jam" at Winfield. We had great weather, good chow, lots of music. Had about 10 to 12 GPDA members attending, some spent the weekend others came down for a "visit." I was in a quandary as there was an Irish jam, Bluegrass jam, and Traditional jam all at one time. It were great fun.
Don't know what all is planned for workshops for the meeting, except Joy is going to teach an absolute beginning H.D. workshop, as we now have a few beginner H.D. players.
Cowtown attire was discussed at the last meeting. I asked Anthony for specific info, but he was vague with his answers. He prefers a group to be dressed in similar attire, rather than one person to be period correct and everyone else not. Obviously he would prefer that everyone be period correct. However, it appears that no one will be turned away for not being period correct. Also, Anthony is no longer working there, so maybe I will be able to get more info from his replacement.
Men can order period clothing thru Cowtown at a much cheaper price than Sheplers. Women's patterns are available to be traced from Cowtown's original patterns. There are websites that offer authentic patterns for different time periods, such as www.trulyvictorian.com. If anyone knows of any other similar websites, please let us know. Make sure that your pattern and material have been approved by Cowtown before you buy it. Some patterns are "costume" and not authentic. This leads me to remind everyone that traditionally the first weekend of the month "GPDA" volunteers play at Cowtown. Get together with some friends and go out and find a shade tree to play under. See everyone one June 11th at 9a.m. for coffee and doughnuts before the meeting. Pres . Joe

VICE PRESIDENTIAL CORNER: |
A FEW WORDS FROM OUR VP: We may have an open jam after this month's workshops. "Cripple Creek" "Old Joe Clark" may be tunes to keep in mind. Open for all suggestions. Joy has graciously offered to lead a workshop for all Hammer Dulcimer players. This will be a beginning level class. I encourage all of you that are new to the instrument, received one as a gift, or have it sitting in a closet, to take advantage of this opportunity. Joy is wonderful with the Hammer Dulcimer and teaching. If we can gather enough interest, we can once again have a strong Hammer Dulcimer segment in the club. Again, please feel free to contact me with any ideas or thoughts you may have about a workshop you would like to attend or lead, ccarr@mvpcorp.com. Look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday! Enjoy the Sun, stay cool, play on. Chuck (Veep)

ANNOUNCEMENTS: |
COME OUT AND PLAY . . . . . . . . Butler County Day will be this Sat., June 11, from 9 to 5, at 383 E. Central, El Dorado. If you've never been to the Oil Museum for this fun and educational event, you don't know what you're missing! Lots of big shade trees, an 1860 cabin, 1930 Oil Town, vintage car and tractor show, vendors, kids games, petting zoo, and much more. It's good clean fun!
Acoustic Musicians are needed to play at this event. That's where you (yes, you) come in. There will be a stage and sound system set up, or you can just sit somewhere and play for the folks walking by. If you can help out, please let Teresa Bachman know ASAP (she works at the nifty museum.) Perhaps a small herd of us musicians could leave right after the club meeting Saturday and head to El Dorado and help Teresa out and get to hang out some more and jam under the shade trees. A man from Texas, driving a Volkswagen Beetle, pulls up next to a guy in an Arkansas licensed Rolls Royce at a stop sign.
Their windows are open and he yells at the guy in the Rolls, "Hey, you got a telephone in that Rolls?"
The guy in the Rolls says, "Yes, of course I do.."
"I got one too... see?" the Texan says.
"Uh, huh, yes, that's very nice."
"You got a fax machine?" asks the Texan.
"Why, actually, yes, I do."
"I do too! See? It's right here!" brags the Texan.
The light is just about to turn green and the guy in the Volkswagen says, "So, do you have a double bed in back there?"
The guy in the Rolls replies, "NO! Do you?"
"Yep, got my double bed right in back here," the Texan replies.
The light turns and the man in the Volkswagen takes off.
Well, the guy in the Rolls is not about to be one-upped, so he immediately goes to a customizing shop and orders them to put a double bed in back of his car.
About two weeks later, the job is finally done. He picks up his car and drives all over town looking for the Volkswagen beetle with the Texas plates. Finally, he finds it parked alongside the road, so he pulls his Rolls up next to it.
The windows on the Volkswagen are all fogged up and he feels somewhat awkward about it, but he gets out of his newly modified Rolls and taps on the foggy window of the Volkswagen.
======================= (It's ok... The joke is CLEAN.)
=======================
The man in the Volkswagen finally opens the window a crack and peeks out.
The guy with the Rolls says, "Hey, remember me?"
"Yeah, yeah, I remember you," replies the Texan, "What's up?"
"Check this out... I got a double bed installed in my Rolls.
"The Texan exclaims, "YOU GOT ME OUT OF THE SHOWER TO TELL ME THAT !?!
