FROM OUR PRESIDENT:

Happy summer to all!!!

When I was a kid, my folks used to tell me that time went faster when you got older. Of course I knew that wasn't possible. Well guess what? It does go faster. Winfield and the warm-up picnic is only a month away, and I'm not ready. I'm hoping that the weather cools a little before then, its been a little warm. Hope everyone can make the Aug. club meeting, this will be the last one before the picnic. We will have a sign up sheet at the club meeting for people to list what food they want to bring to the covered dish. If you will not be at the meeting, you may e-mail me ( or Marie). Or even if you are going to the meeting you can still e-mail. :)
We will have some sweatshirts at the meeting, for those that want to try one on before picking a size to order. Still working on where to get a patch made, for those that want a windbreaker etc. hopefully will have some info by then.

I will also be appointing a nominating committee to line up candidates for club officers for next year. Be thinking about this, either seeking an office yourself, or someone that you would like to see in office. Remember folks, if I can do it, anyone can. The neat thing is, you don't have to do it all yourself, there are plenty to help you out.

Thanks to all that played for the Girl Scouts at Cowtown, Marie got the neatest fold up card, with everyone's picture on it. If you weren't there, have someone show you theirs. Enough rambling..... Prez Joe

VICE PRESIDENTIAL CORNER:

Well, that special time of the year is rapidly approaching. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, hopefully cooler temps, and Winfield where hope, friendships and music come together.

I want to encourage everyone to join in the festivities as GPDA hosts our annual Warm Up Picnic, Saturday, September 9th. This is a wonderful opportunity to attend workshops on a wide variety of instruments from very gifted instructors. This is a good time to learn some new techniques on your favorite instrument. Have you ever wondered how difficult it is to play a different instrument? It may be
easier than you think. Now is your chance! Remember, these workshops are
free and open to the public so invite your friends, and come share the gift of music. More information will be available at this month’s Club meeting, so please plan to attend.

Workshops this Saturday:
Princess Harris will once again lead the hammer dulcimers. I want to encourage everyone that has been learning and playing this beautiful instrument to take advantage of this workshop. Princess is a wonderful musician and an excellent teacher. I can assure you that everyone, regardless of experience, will walk away learning something.

I will take the guitars and (anyone else) through a light little tune "Johnny Cope".

I am still looking for someone to lead the mountain dulcimers. So if anyone would like to arrive with a tune in their pocket and notes on the neck, please feel free to do so. If none of this vibrates your strings, you can always come play in the jam workshop. Hope to see you all this Saturday! Peace and music. Chuck

SECRETARY'S NOTES FROM July MEETING:

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • The sweatshirts are about to be ordered! Just in time for those cool Winfield nights. I will have sweatshirts in the Medium, Large and X-Large for members to try on at the meeting Saturday. Now is your chance to order with confidence a size just for you. Remember, we have a minimum order of 12. The club will not be ordering extras so come try one on, or email your request into Chuck Carr (ccarr@mvpcorp.com), or call and leave a message at 263-9604 by Friday, August 18. I will have the ordered sweatshirts at the Warm Up Picnic.

    The sweatshirts are:
    Brand: Gildan
    Color: Gold
Crewneck: S-XL will be around $16.50,
    2X around $18.75
Hooded: S-XL will be around $23.50,
    2X around $25.75. Sorry, no 3X

CLUB GIG OPPORTUNITY:
GPDA members are invited to play for a wedding reception in
Eastborough, 71 Mission, on Sept 23rd, 6:00 to 9:00 PM. I think
parking will be difficult so anyone who can double up, might be a good idea. We should arrive around 5:00 to5:30 PM to set up and have your instruments in tune. We'll use the usual Club Play List with maybe some additions. The lady said she would have chairs for us, so bring
your music stands and the music we decide on. Club T- shirts and
black jeans/slacks/ skirts for the ladies (or men).

It would help if you would email or call me so I can get a nose count please - Barbara@BarbaraBarr.com or 687-2220. If you have already contacted me, I have you on my list. They will feed us. GPDA was recommended to the lady.....so that was pretty cool.

We also need some kind soul to volunteer to bring a sound system. We will be outside or under a tent and the dulcimers won't be heard without some amplification. Perhaps these details can be worked out at the club meeting during the open discussion time?
