Hooray! Summer is Still Here!! The Official Newsletter of the Great Plains Dulcimer Alliance Volume XXIII Number Eight Aug 2005

FROM OUR PRESIDENT: |
WOW , I believe that summer is here. My grass has turned a nice shade of brown, so now I don't have to mow quite so often. Speaking of summer, thanks to everyone that made it to the 3 rd annual performance at Goessel, for Threshing Days. It was warm, but not too bad under the tent, and we had a good crowd. The ice cream is great : ) WUP and WVF is only 4 weeks away !!! For those that don't know, Lonnie Bonnes is ram-rodding the WUP this year. If you would like to help with anything, get in touch with her. She especially needs volunteers to help with asking for donations to the raffle. However, talk with her so we don't have more than one person going to the same business. Flyers for the WUP will be available at this month ' s club meeting. * Hope to see everyone at the meeting on Sat. the 13 th . This is the last meeting before the warm up picnic and Walnut Valley. Coffee & donuts at 9:00 and meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. . Come join the excitement!! Pres. Joe

VICE PRESIDENTIAL CORNER: |
A FEW WORDS FROM OUR VP: I want to thank all of you that made it to Goessel this past weekend. We had a good turnout and a lot of fun. A big thanks to Glenn for setting the deal, Marie and Barb for organizing the play list, and especially our fearless leader, Joe for spontaneously MC-ing our group. I heard positive comments from some in the audience, and a few folks expressed interest in learning more about GPDA. This was a good chance for us to get out before the public again - and also have some extra good ice cream up there. What a great way to cool down after the set! All in all, we had a good time and only thrashed a few tunes during Threshing Days. Don't forget, we will be working out the details for the Warm-Up Picnic during this month's meeting, so please plan to attend and be ready to lend a hand. The workshops will be rather open this month - LeeAnne and Eunice will be leading the mountain dulcimer player with the tune "Wellyn." I heard these two young ladies playing this tune last meeting, and I think you will be in for a real treat! If I am able to locate a copy of the song before the meeting, I will send it out later this week. We have had a request for "Flop Eared Mule." If anyone wants to lead it during a the other workshops this week, we'll play it during the play around. Well, I hope everyone is brushing up and getting ready for the Mecca of Winfield. Be good and play well. Hope to see everyone this Saturday! Peace be with you, Chuck (Veep Dude)
