The Official Newsletter of the Great Plains Dulcimer Alliance

Volume XXIV Number Four

April 2006

FROM OUR PRESIDENT:

Hello to everyone -
Time does fly when you are having fun.  Marie and I just got back from Palestine, Texas, where we attended the Wright family old time music festival.  It was great, of course.  The festival is held inside (the old high school building) so weather is not a problem, but the weather was good while we were there.  It did rain a little bit one nite, but no storms.
This is primarily a jam and concert festival, but they did have a lot of workshops too, mostly for dulcimers.  We attended a jam on Wednesday evening that had more KS players than Texans!!  That was cool.
Club meeting is coming up real quick, on April 8th.  Happy ½ hour starts at 9 a.m., and the business meeting starts at 9:30 a.m.. Hope to see you all there.
Prez Joe

VICE PRESIDENTIAL CORNER:

Vice Presidential Message:
Greeting to all!
Did the second Saturday of April, 2006 sneak up on you like it did me?  I must confess, it did not even register that this weekend is the next club meeting.  The newsletter would be even later waiting for my input if it had not been for our illustrious newsletter editor bringing this to my attention.  My apologizes at all.

Last meeting, we talked about changing our workshop approach.  So for this month's workshops you have your choice:

One group is going to visit the list we had of the top-ten-or-so songs you need to know for jams.  This is a list that was published a couple of years ago.  The group will select a song & learn it.  There will be a chance to work in smaller groups if you are learning a new instrument.

The second group will be an open jam.  Bring a song you have been learning, or if you want to show off your newest lick.  You're welcome to  bring extra copies of your song to pass around so others can join you.  Let me know what you think of this new workshop approach.

Enjoy and keep on pluckin'.  Peace to all.
Chuck

A Report on the Spring Benefit Concert
The annual GPDA fund-raiser was on March 11th.  Attendance was good, but not overwhelming.  As usual, the food was great.  Admissions revenue for the concert totaled $378.  Disbursements for the concert consisted of $100 donation to Immanuel Baptist Church for the use of Hillside Baptist Church, and $6.27 for paper goods, for a total of $106.27.  The net result from the concert was $271.73.  And a good time was had by all.  A big THANK YOU goes out to all who came, played, ate and listened.      JP  :o)
